About This Track
This is a deep and dark drum 'n' bass track featuring a beautiful (hindi?) female vocal. At times the vocal sample is chopped up and sequenced to resemble a tabla performance. This is one of my favorite pieces yet...

[quote:7e9b947356="joevirus"]did u gate the vocal and pan it ?????[/quote:7e9b947356] Lessee I started with a deepest india female vocal sample and then ran it through Steinberg Recycle to chop it up into maybe 64 separate samples and a MIDI file that strings them together. Once that was done, it was easy to go into a pattern arranger and mess up with the ordering of the tiny samples, make them sound kind of like a tabla performance or something. Just gating them wouldn't have given them that funny alternate-melody thing. Looking for two tips for modern production, esp. if any of you are Logic users: 1) best/easiest way to do really nice rhythmic audio gating. I've found some VSTs but they don't work so great for me. 2) what's the best replacement for Recycle! these days? Not impressed with phatmatic pro... Just need something where I can bring in a loop and have it turn it into 16 or 32 samples plus a midi file... - October 9, 2007
You The Man Canton!!!
Canton. Thanks again for your positive energy that you bring to this groooovy forum. I like the crafty way you manipulated and sliced the samples of the female vocal in Indian Summer quite a bit. And what a beautiful and haunting voice she has. I wonder where I might find samles like that? Are they from this site? Peace. Chuck Silva - October 9, 2007

I used these samples and then after Indian Summer got licensed for use in the XBox 360 version of "dance dance revolution" I needed to go back and buy the rights... Speaking of that -- does anyone else out here have experience doing game music? I'd like to learn more about the industry -- i've only done a very little bit. - November 20, 2007
where to buy rights?
Canton, I'm loving those vocals and the effects you used in the track. Where can a person buy the rights to use the vocals commercially? I didn't see any reference to that on that page you linked to. Thanks! - November 20, 2007
