What do you mean it doesn't work? Does it sound wrong or the actual sample not show up?

maybe because the samples are in different keys.....ie not musically or harmonically suited to each other....

trail and error is the only way.....theres no shortcut unless you wanna write cheesey pop music...

Only advice (and this is the best advice you will probably be given) is never give up. I've spent 3 years writing music and it's only to this day that I've started to see some desired results.

Oh and by the way, correct volume levels of mixing is very important. Never have everything the same volume.

Are you trying to actually compose around that sample, wrap it a lil bit? Or are you just juxtaposing two loops?

To me, sounds like you're in the wrong key. If by "it doesnt work" you mean it sounds discordant and "wrong" then you're in the wrong key.
Once you find the key of your sample, your bass and piano will "fit" with the sample and will sound good.
