| I have an audio sample (a wav file) which contains both a vocal portion and a drum portion (its basically a wav of an intro to a song). I am using Ableton Live 6 to edit the sample and use it in an arrangement, and right now I am EQing it to try and reduce the drum sounds as low as possible. What I REALLy want to do is cut them out all together, leaving only the vocals. Any suggestions? are there effects I can use to do this? can I edit the sample somehow in a different program to separate out or mute the drums? I appreciate any advice!! |

| There is no software thats going to remove elements of a song. The only thing you can really do is EQ out the frequencies that the drums are on. My advice would be to boost the mid's and cut out a lot of lo's, and some hi's. Regardless, you're more than likely going to be hearing a lot of snare no matter what you do, since it's in the mid range. |

Is the sample you are working with old? You might get lucky if it's an old track, sometimes the drums were recorded on the left or right channel ONLY. If that's the case, all you would have to do is pan the sample all the way to one side. I used this technique to remove unwanted guitars from a Happiness is a Warm Gun sample. Give it a try.
