ive been using fruity loops for bout 2 years now and erverything i know i learnt myself and i dont really consider myself a newbie since i know the basics but im not that advanced yet im tryin though
as for drums and stuff im satisfied with my work
but when i start trying to add melodies i start to fuck shit up and i usually give up
i got whole folder of dead beats. that really olny need melodies
and i hear the stuff people post on here and i be like damn how the hell yall do that
and i know everybody dont be on fruity loops but most of yall are
so really im just wondering if any body has any tips that could help me with my fruity melodies cuz some of my beats be soundin like snap beats which im not really into even though im from the south
and really any tips would help because ive never had any help tryin to learn this not even a tutorial

I've had the same problem from time to time . . What I suggest is turning off the beat. . .what I mean is START track with a melody and maybe a skeleton of the beat [kick, snare ONLY]. And force yourself not to move on until you've come up with a solid melody, be it bassline, synth whatever. The drums take care of themselves after that. . .you'll be amazed.
As far as your stuff sounding like snap beats . ..turn off the RADIO AND TV. I don't know what kinda music you listen to but you can't help but be influenced by what you hear everyday. So the solution, change the music thats streaming thru ya brain. Have your friends put you onto some music you wouldn't have picked up yourself. . it really helps expand your creativity. .that's my two cents . . holla atcha.

Rule number one, is creativity. The way I do thing is to start with couple of melodies first before advancing to beats and drums and arrangement. Doing beats first kill the length of ur immagination for melodies. Let the whole song move on its on way and not restricting them with what you plan them to be. You'll be surprise where they take you to. Good luck :)
