*** THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED ***

WINNERS ARE POSTED HERE:

---

It's my 34th birthday! Let's celebrate. SampleSwap has been around (in one form or another) for more than seven years, and this is by far the best music contest we've ever put together. Super thanks to the software companies that donated the grand prizes below.

These jaw-droppingly cool grand prizes will be awarded on May 13, 2007:

SampleTank 2 XL by IK Multimedia – Full boxed retail version (retails for $499) VST/AU/RTAS/DXi Sample Workstation. Super-advanced time stretching lets you sync loops to your sequencer with one click. Comes with 6.5 GB sound library. Check it out here: http://www.sampletank.com

µTonic by Sonic Charge – Tin Tonic Edition (Retails for $129) Software arrives in a metal can installed on a 64MB USB memory device. Simply the funnest, most musically useful VST/AU plugin I have ever used. It's a drum/percussion synthesizer with a built-in pattern sequencer. Speaker-ripping crisp warm 100% synthesized sound (no samples.) Download demo here: http://www.soniccharge.com/download

Live 6 by Abelton – Full boxed retail version (retails for $599) including the Essential Instrument Collection. This is absolutely the state-of-the-art for live audio manipulation, and it absolutely kicks ass when it comes to composing with samples. Info/demo: http://www.ableton.com/downloads

How to compete: Upload one or more original electronic music compositions to SampleSwap.org before midnight May 5, 2007. Enter as many songs as you like.

How to upload your music: Click: http://www.sampleswap.org/upload-song.php

Rules: This contest is for electronic music only, for example techno, trance, ambient, drum 'n' bass, breaks, electro, house. "Real music" (e.g. pop music, ballads, rock music, jazz) will not be considered. You must own the copyright to any songs you upload. Songs may contain SampleSwap sounds, but using SS sounds is not a requirement. You will be uploading full-resolution 44khz 16 bit WAV or AIF mixdowns of your songs. No MP3s. If you win, you may be asked to provide a sub-mix (e.g. isolated drum track or unmixed sample) to prove that you really made the song. When you upload your music, you retain full copyright but you will be releasing your song under a Creative Commons license. SampleSwap members will be able to download and share MP3s of your music, limited by the conditions you will specify during upload. The best songs will also be featured on an upcoming SampleSwap streaming radio.

More rules: Any injury you sustain as a result of energetic head banging and reckless dancing while composing for this contest is your own responsibility. Winners will be announced on May 13, 2007, and prizes will ship on May 14, 2007 world-wide via United States Postal Service. You may be responsible for paying an import tax if you live outside of the USA. Friends who know Canton in real life are not eligible for prizes: but if they don't enter any music in this contest, Canton will kick their asses. If you don't win, but you made a really cool song anyway, we reserve the right to send you a free DVD-ROM of the SampleSwap collection anyway.

Is this software for Windows? Could the winner receive a Mac version (if they exist)? Not that I would ever win....

Hi.
I've just signed up to this board.

Great competition. Top prizes.
I'm actually turning 34 myself this year. Well, if everything goes well that is, haha.

Just wondering what a "Creative Commons license" covers?
I'm a member of MCPS/PRS - UK equivilant of ASCAP or BMI, so I'm wondering if I am allowed to participate?

All three of the programs work on both Mac and Windows, according to their websites.

heya -- you should have no trouble licensing a song under creative commons. It doesn't affect your publishing. However, you do have to own the copyright; so for example, if you did a work for hire (buy-out) and sold the copyright to someone else, you wouldn't be allowed to then creative common license the work even though you invented it. Check out http://www.creativecommons.org for more info of course :)

This competition is ideal, I have been trying to scrounge up the cash to get ableton for ages. My university work is going to suffer greatly though coz i will be putting in some serious hours into this one.

It's rather late, but happy 34th. Mine was special.... :)

Great contest. Already got Ableton this past month, but would love SampleTank or the toy thingie. I have so much going on, you can expect more shares of various style.

PEACE!

I'm happy to have folks upload all kinds of stuff; there is an industrial genre for uploads (where would we be without nitzer ebb, front 242, and skinny puppy? :) and they'll be judged against all the other songs just the same. That said, things with strong vocal lines will probably fare worse against things that are more straight up electronic since that's what the contest calls for.

I've made a "drum'n dub" sound. I've recorded a skankin with an acoustic guitar and modified it with lot of vst plugins.
Can I upload my sound for the contest??

thanks.
