For an easy to use interface and relativly simple programming Garageband really rocks. It's baby Logic.
Haven't tried Reason , but is it so that you can't record live with it...sample based only?
For plugins I find I use Dubstation, Waves Finalplug 5 (has a cd mastering setting which just makes your music jump out of the speakers!), Camel Phat and Camel Space more than others. These two last are just incredible filters that will warp your sound in any direction you choose (and some you don't).
Crystal is a very nice free synth.
Melodyne is awesome for pitch shifting, bpm streching etc. |

I'm a tracker by nature - I've tried software of other kinds, but I always fall back on tracking.
At the moment I use MadTracker the most. Always been a samples-man, but I've become quite addicted to VST after trying the "new/improved" version of MT - haven't used it in years until recently. When I was on GNU/Linux SoundTracker was my tracker of choice - I only use windows cause GNU/Linux doesn't support my Creative Zen Vision W.
Another tracker I have a great deal of FUN with is FamiTracker - look that one up if you don't already know it. |

| Currently I use GarageBand and Reason (Yay ReWire). I'm also quite fond of Ableton Live, but don't actually have it. My synth of choice is Vanguard by ReFX, which I probably use more than all my other VSTs combined. As far as filters go, I use Trash by Izotope pretty frequently, although it tends to kill my processor. |

I keep going back to Logic 5 on my PC and wishing Apple never bought Emagic:(
I use Abelton a lot and Adobe Audition for mastering.
Crystal plugin is fun
and I can't live without Ozone 3 for that final mix. |

I use the FL 6 for production.
For mixing I export the tracks and use the audition 2 And for mastering Ozone.
People doesn`t Like FL because in his earlier versions It was Kinda toy, but now we can say the engine is professional and the versatility only depends on you. You can do the same of cubase, only need to know how.
Of course I use FL as a sequencer with external plugins, I donīt use too much the FX or instruments that com along with it. _________________ http://www.undiscovered.com.au/durden |

Fl studio man here too!
Could'nt do without FL at all, tried Cubase, reason, logic etc etc... but FL is just soo confortable to me. I hardly ever use the inhouse synths in FL but i do use alot of the effects. My main synth would be Vanguard also or DiscoDSP's Discovery.
Anyways id make a track in FL, export the tracks separatly and give them like a mini master and extra processing like Convo reverb, compression and well cutting up parts. Sound forge is my mastering tool of choice and combined with Ozone 3 its hard to beat!
I also have nearly every stable freeware plugin and actually use alot of them in my productions, i think for every commercial plugin there is a freeware plugin that will match it or out-do it (I said nearly not all lol)! |

I'm really new to this....been using FL 5 and 7 for about a year.....just recently I decided to learn Cubase SX3 and for me since it's a new to me I'm writing slower than FL but I really like what I see in cubase
pretty soon I'm going to have to learn mastering too....I haven't really dug into that |

It's a Must, even an amateur mastering job could do the difference between some comments like "it's ok" or "sounds very good"... It changes the perception of the track and gives it cohesion, bringing it near to the "professional sound" that costs thousands...
Look over the internet, there are very good "mastering basics"... _________________ http://www.undiscovered.com.au/durden |
