Inspiration comes in waves. Relax while you are in the trough. You'll soon be surfing on top of the big one again. (Until the next trough).

never, i can feel uninspired and not so creative pretty often.. but, usually all it takes is for me to sit down and make some beats or tweak some sounds, however, i can always start something, but its not always it turns into a tune..

so i have lots of unfinished stuff that i can either try to combine with other projects or just get some material from..

i've often seen advice about throwing away everything unless it turn into a good track.. but imo, that is not really such a geat idea.. i mean it migth sound goos because it could mean that the outcome always will be a good track... but the reason the material you want to throw away isnt sounding good could be that it havent been put into a place where it fits better.. so thats a reason i save everything unless i really dont like the sounds.. though even then, those sounds might sound good in the right place..

got a bit offtopic here, but for me these things are connected.. i took along time before i even could make something longer than 16 bars... people could say that it was writers block, but in a way it wasnt.. it was the way i worked... now i save alot of the stuff i make and soemtimes when i sit down, i got more to work with.. more stuff that can give inspiration and ideas.. if i had thrown everything, i would have to start over everytime..

people work in different ways, best advice i can give is to continue making stuff even if you arent inspired, you'll get training.. an once you get some ideas, the training can help things flow better.. you can continue training with your weapons of choice, and mix it up with some new..

I've got a bout of producer's block right now. Granted, for me it comes in waves as someone else alluded to. Periods of high-volume, high-quality output with lulls in between. Sometimes the occasional blip. But it will pass.

It's not so much a block as it is that I just don't like the direction certain projects go in once they start to bulk up. I have an entire album of beats and samples that I totally abandoned... And don't get me wrong, it's not that it wasn't interesting, I think the overall sound to it is very interesting and something I would even listen to. But it was my first attempt at creating a piece of work compiled 100% from found samples... When I started making music, I would make most of my samples myself on any instruments I could get my hands on, and then load them into my sampler and loop them. I'd say only a quarter of the samples were pulled from pre-existing sources, and they were all either sound effects or ambience or spoken word pieces. So, I think in the end, this abandoned material--while very exciting--just seemed kind of contrived and not true to the actual expression I was supposed to make.

I've since gone back and pulled some of the samples for use in new material... After heavily tweaking them, of course.

If we do a work by whole heart its result and experience will be great.
