I use neither of those listed...I use Tuareg 2, with the VST-Plug-in. If I want to chop up a sample--or make one, whatever, I use Nero Wave editor. And since money's been kind of the issue in all this, I use Soundplant. Yeah, it's old, but I can create a bass keyboard so my low-end bass is more...organic?
I've been dabbling in other programs, but those are my major ones I use. |

This thread is very awsome.
um, currently using FL 5, honestly can't say i'm a huge fan, theres something in the overall sound that just makes it sound like FL, not like my track.
I've got reason 3 pro but my OS died last time I installed it (for unrelated reasons I belive) so ive not tried that too much.
My band has used audacity to record and sequence DI'd guitars and bass guitar, which seams to work nicely, not as "this does this you can see it does" as other programs though
Currently using (very regretably) Vista =( one more problem and ill kill the entire microsoft corporation myself.
Not sure what programs to stick with for my project, probably reason and audacity i'd say |

| i am a student so still learning all the software, I prefer to record into Cubase and the bounce it down and put it into Pro Tools to mix it, i personally think that pro tools is as near perfect as it could be. I have just started using Ableton live today and i can see myself playing on it for many many hours! |

| I was a little frustrated you could only vote for one. I use ACID for quick and easy composing, loop editing and such, Cubease for more refined production once the ideas are laid down, Wavelab for general editing, and Sonar for some of it's unique features like Cyclone. I also have a true 192k capable sound card (although I rarely go over 96k) with mastering grade ad/da converters to record live instruments. I have used Ableton, but sometimes it gets a little cluttered. |

| Ive been using cubase sx3 since i did A-level music tech about 3 years ago. I use acid occasionally for cutting and looping stuff and things like soundforge and wavelab for the niggly little technical bits. My only problem with cubase is its difficult to mix down the final result directly from the program.. but i can get round it without splashing out on protools i think! |

Oï!
I voted Reason because it's the first "big" soft I had to make music — and the one I used and know the most.
However, I started with a tracker on my Amiga in the mid 90's, then Rebirth, then Reason. I worked with it extensively for 7 years, before switching recently to a sequencer that's not listed here : Renoise, a modern, up to date tracker with lots of features, including VST/VSTi support. Back to the Roots! :)
I'm looking forward to try Reason 4 tho... Thor looks yummy.
Even if Reason is a great piece of software, it's Renoise that opened to me the gates to the wonderful world of VST; the plugs I use the most include :
- PSP Vintage Warmer (fat-ass tube compression)
- PSP Nitro (multi-effect)
- Arts Accoustic Reverb, Discord 2 (delay, pitch shifting & filtering)
- Dub Station (delay / equing)
- Ozone 3 (complete mastering suite — I have click issues with it and rarely use it anymore, Vintage Warwer is my dirtier, grungier friend now)
- Absynth (synth)
I wish I voted "MAX MSP / SuperCollider / Nerdy Stuff" because MAX is The Power. ^_^ |

| I use Sony ACID Music Studio 6 right now and for the price ($70) I'm really impressed. You can do a lot of things in terms of remixing, extracting/sampling audio, etc. There are a few annoying things about (only can record 1 track at time, can't put multiple different effects on a single track [you have to duplicate it, then change the FX] and some of the editing functions are a little strange/non-intuitive at times). I've purchased and own ACID Pro 6.0, which is a full-fledged DAW and sequencer, but I'm waiting until I buy my new compy from Sweetwater to start using/install it. Plus I have to transfer all of my samples from my existing computer. |

Maybe Audacity is little "poor" software (I´m a lego), but it is what I use too. And it works!

Hi All
I have been using Logic since it came out ......yes, I'm really that old;) I also own Reason and Live but find myself using Logic most of the time. I was using the Pro Tools mix plus system a few years ago but was always frustrated with the midi and audio engine. My interface is the Motu Mk3 which although not the best sounding interface on the market (Apogee etc) works for me. I have an over abundance of plug ins but tend to use the Arturia and Korg synths for the analogue stuff and Rob Papens synths for the more technoidy sounds. I have all the Native Instrument plugs as well and from those Battery and Kontact get to see the arrnge page of logic most. I do however think that it doesn't really matter what a person uses cos its down to the music not the software and whatever works for someone is good enough for me. The comments on Garageband users are a bit elitist and really if someone puts together something cool that entertains the ears and soul then why not! Acoustic guitar anyone?
Peace K |
