|

In FL Studio;
For trance/dance tracks, start with a drum pattern like this:
1. Kick drum beats on a 4/4 Time signature:
|o...|o...|o...|o...| { o = kick here }
2. Off-beat (syncopated) open hi-hat:
|..#.|..#.|..#.|..#.| { # = Open Hi-hat }
So, now you have :- |o.#.|o.#.|o.#.|o.#.|
3. And a snare on the first beat of the 2nd and 4th bar:
|....|+...|....|+...|
Now, you want an off-beat bass line. In the step-sequencer (Where you input the drum pattern), drop a synth into an empty space and right-click it. Select, 'Fill each 4 steps'. Hold shift and press right 'Two' times, so that the bass looks like this:
|..b.|..b.|..b.|..b.|
It should have the same pattern as the open hi-hat.
Choose a root-note, and keep it repeating (Default is 'C Note'). That keeps a constant driving bass line which is common in 'Ibiza' style trance music.
4. We need a crash to begin and finish each section of the track:
|C...|....|....|....| x 4/8
Every 4-8 bars, the crash will come in.
5. To add depth, every 8th bar of the repeating drum pattern, you will add a fill. It can be anything, just go crazy. Start with each sample, imagining how you want it to be. This breaks up monotony.
That's all there is to it. Add a new bass-line after a crash and a fill, for example:
C / C / G / A# (A Sharp) - Each note plays for 1 bar each, that's keeping to the 4/4 time signature for simplicity.
Then you can add leads, such as 'Arpeggio's' and constant melodies. Stuff which makes the track complete.
Other than EQ, mastering etc. That's as simple as it gets.
You can embellish the pattern with a '16-note to a bar' closed hi-hat, at a mucher lower volume than the rest. The kick and snare pattern on their own, without cymbals. There are many things you can do.

| Along with this, check out the demo's I uploaded. This is what you can achieve with Fruity Loops and 30-40 minutes of your time. |
