I've listened to quite a lot of the music posted in the new competition but I find it hard to make comments about it, especially if it's not to my taste or it's not a good production.
I notice that not many comments have been posted in ratio to the amount of views. But it would be useful to know what others think of your music.
So how about a series of checkboxes, say one for rhythm/percussion,one for melody/vocals and one for production with scores from 1-9 that could be entered alongside ones username?
Would this be useful?

You make a good point there. There is also some pretty good music in there which could deserve a few words of encouragement and i am also guilty of keeping silent.

Maybe a part of the problem is that once you comment on someone's music, it then moves that track to the top of the list, which in turn may make the track even more popular, so you would in effect be helping the enemy in a serious competition.
Just a thought.

And happy birthday to Canton. I'm also 34 this month. Keep up the good work.

Thanx for your comment, I was wondering if anyone would, but there are at least 150 others who don't seem to have an opinion. i reckon they are all just shy....

As for commenting bumping up posts, well there seems to be some of that going on without anycomments being made. I watched one post get over 200 hits in a couple of hours (highly suspicious).

Personally I'm not taking the chance of winning too seriously. It would mean more to me to know that someone liked/disliked or had a constructive comment to make about my music.

And a Happy Birthday to you.!!

Well putting aside the idea that you're all enemies of one another :) don't worry about tracks getting moved to the top of the list -- or even voting with the "star" on the playback device to flag something as good.

For this contest, all songs will be blasted out to an iPod and listened to irregardless of 'ranking' or placement in the forums or how many listens or comments. It's a plain old dictatorship judged by King Canton in this case.

Future contests *will* be more community judged; but part of the purpose of this contest is to find folks who are active and skilled so that they can be jurors. (One idea I have is that the folks who contribute the 10 best songs will be invited to help judge future contests.)

Anyhow -- comment away! It doesn't help/hurt anyone's chances of winning.

Good Q though.

I reckon you've got quite a job there. picking one out of so much excellent music is not going to be easy.

i think only one song should be allowed from every member. and its not fair that techno eg must compete against house, drum n bass.etc. i would choose best two out of each group than judge or let members vote for the one which think has best vocals, prodution, mastering etc . savage calming down he he
