|
|
Use the following page to upload your original music to SampleSwap. It will automatically create a posting in this forum:
http://www.sampleswap.org/upload-song.php
You will be uploading an uncompressed master of your song -- a full-blown 44 Khz / 16-bit WAV or AIF file. NO MP3s. This is because the server will be creating two super-high quality mp3 versions of your song on the fly.
You can upload one or drag-and-drop many songs at once onto the uploader, which will accept songs of up to 100 MB (10 minutes) each.
During the upload process you will have an opportunity to specify genre, MP3 tags, and the Creative Commons license under which you'd like to share your song with us. |

Does the song need to exclusively include SampleSwap loops? Or can others be used as well? _________________ Hearing Colours, Tasting Shapes <- My dub/reggae project! |

For this contest, anything goes. Just compose original music and upload it. You'll probably get Extra Credit for using some samples from SampleSwap, but it's not necessary. |

| The uploader doesn't seem to be working for me, all I'm getting is a blank grey area with a message in the status bar of 'not found' when I activate the control. |

Interesting uploader. Moving a raw wav is time consuming, but the subsequent steps of adding information, the Creative Commons license and then finally encoding are actually quite nice. I like it. _________________ ] |

Hi, i haven't heard of this problem yet...
Could you try using firefox instead of IE or Safari, whichever it is that you're using?
Thanks!

Hi I managed to upload several files successfully, but it seems your file conversion of them results in them being full of static. They still sound like my files but with shedloads of noise on top.
Am I the only one this has happened to?
To be honest I am not willing to go through the process of reuploading all of the files as there seems to be an error with the file conversion process, and it took me all day last time, and there's no way I'm spending all day uploading files again for them to be converted badly, so is there another possible way to drop files onto the server?
With regard to the grey box, I got round that issue by hitting reload. |

Hi there,
this has happened to a number of folks, though generally only when they are uploading files that are not 16-bit 44khz. (For example if you upload a 24-bit mixdown, this is sure to happen.)
If you *are* for sure uploading 16-bit 44khz wav or aiff files and this is happening, please contact me and I'll make sure your songs get entered into the contest one way or another.
If by accident you were uploading 24bit mixdowns, let me know if you think I could make the instructions more obvious on the upload page; I hate for folks to waste time with uploads. but I also have overly long upload instructions with flashing text bold 24 point type etc. :) |

Hrm :/ I've seen this happen a (very few) times with 16-bit mixes. The only thing I can think of is if you mixed down as an AIFF, then try a WAV instead -- or if you did a WAV, then do an AIFF.
Sorry for the problem -- most of the time, it works great! |

| yeah I think thats the problem, that it was done on a mac and not a pc. sounds like the bit has been inverted. which means I have to reupload as well as re render them all. sorry. you really should have mentioned that in your initial message. |

Hello,
I have a small problem with the uploader: I already uploaded three songs and tagged 2 of them, but when I finished uploading the 3rd one I was told that I have two untagged songs and I got the page to tag one of the songs I had already tagged. What should I do? How can I get the page for the right song to tag it?
Thank you in advance for any help.
P.S. Sorry for posting this twice, but I didn't know exactly where to post.
Canton, would you please delete the one that is not in the right place? |

maaan, im sorry to tell you, and no offence, but this upload thingy needs to be better than what it's now cuz it's really faggy and poorly functional! I've been trying to uplad my mixes for past week,16bit 44.1 wav.'s, and it hasnt worked once for me. i was almost ripping my hair out cuz i wanted into the contest so badly, but due to this i couldnt participate. oh, what a shame :)
P.s. No exuces accepted :P |

It seems to be working pretty well for everyone else. Maybe it has something to do with the OS or Internet browser you're using? Also, I recommend being a bit more diplomatic than calling the system "really faggy" and saying that there are "no exuses (sic) accepted." It doesn't make people very eager to offer help. |

I've had no probs on my own PC but I first used my bros to upload because of the setup i have on my own pc with trusted sites. He runs XP no service packs and I installed the java app that you need and there were problems with it. Lets just say it's a very good job that my PC worked otherwise I wouldn't havre been able to participate either. The only difference between our pcs is that I have XP SP2 and he doesn't so I don't know if that's why it didn't work. Strange. But, it's a really cool uploader once it works for you! _________________ Getting back into fruity loops again. I prefer to create music that is intense and dramatic. | I'm only running service pack 1 and no updates at all and i've had no problems, so i think the problem must be something else. It seems to be quite a rare problem so i don't think it would be anything major like service packs or the like. Maybe some types of antivirus/firewall don't agree with the uploader? Who knows. |

I think it could be software conflicts or possibly a viral related issue. My PC is as clean as a whistle. I know the majority of people who have stupid programs running at startup, stuff going on in the background etc like my bros computer downstairs, but I can only think it worked on mine because mine is fully functional. _________________ Getting back into fruity loops again. anyone knows if uploading here will risk any potential to get a tune released?
i mean the labels might not like if people can get the tune here for free!? |

Good question! I'm not 100% sure of the answer, but here's my best guess/understanding:
1) releasing music under CC does not jeopordize your copyright at all. You still retain the copyright 100%. So you can still assign / license the work to a label if they want to do something beyond what they can already do with your CC license. (e.g. sell your music instead of just share it for free.)
2) there are some examples of bands/artists getting well known via their creative commons licensed music, and then a label picks them up to sell the album that was already CC licensed.
however,
3) I suppose the label might very well ask you to do what you can to remove free downloads of your music so they can feel better selling it... but once the cat is out of the bag and you've said that other folks can share it, that might be a tricky thing. |
