I would like to start trying to make music digitally with loops from this website. I don't have anything fancy or any money to spend, so what would be the best choice for free music software? Also if there are any tips on making the music itself that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Audacity is a great free audio editing software program. You must have an audio card with full duplex to play and record at the same time. To do multitrack recording requires you to be able to monitor your recording while recording new tracks and that requires a full duplex audio card. If you find that your monitored audio is also getting recorded while you are recording new tracks then you most likly have only half duplex. Most on board audio is only half duplex.

You can always use http://ubuntustudio.org/ free and has many tools.
Search http://www.kvraudio.com/ for free instruments, effects, daw programs.

It's a little complicated, but Jeskola Buzz is a great free audio suite. I recorded live elements like guitar or keyboard through Jeskola onto KRISTAL (another free audio recording program). Buzz also has a sequencer and some cool effects. Downside? It's complicated and you have to configure it to use your existing VST effects. But, well worth the effort of getting oriented.
